The Milwaukee/Sullivan office of the National Weather Service indicated that a tornado warning was active until 8:45 PM CDT for southern Milwaukee County and southeastern Waukesha County.

At approximately 8:04 PM CDT, storms capable of producing tornadoes were tracked along a line stretching from New Berlin to near Raymond and Yorkville, advancing eastward at 30 mph. Radar confirmed the presence of a tornado within this storm system.

Officials cautioned residents about the potential for a destructive tornado accompanied by hail the size of quarters. The main threats included hazardous flying debris, particularly for individuals without adequate shelter. Mobile homes faced a significant risk of damage or destruction, and various structures, including roofs, windows, vehicles, and trees, were also expected to incur damage.

The storm was predicted to affect numerous communities around 8:10 PM CDT, including Milwaukee, New Berlin, Greenfield, Oak Creek, Muskego, South Milwaukee, Cudahy, Greendale, St. Francis, and Hales Corners. Additional areas impacted included Milwaukee South Shore Park.

Authorities emphasized the critical nature of the situation, confirming that a tornado was on the ground. Residents were advised to seek immediate shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, avoiding windows. Those outside, in mobile homes, or in vehicles were urged to find the nearest substantial shelter and protect themselves from flying debris as the severe storm progressed through the area.
