Severe Tornado Threat Looms Over North Texas as Storms Intensify
Tornado Warning Issued in North Texas
A significant and "extremely hazardous" tornado has been detected near Windthorst, Texas, as severe weather conditions impacted the region on Saturday. The National Weather Service (NWS) reported at 6:56 PM CDT that a confirmed tornado was situated approximately five miles northeast of Windthorst and was "almost stationary." Officials cautioned that the storm was rain-wrapped, making it less visible and potentially more perilous.
This tornado is part of a broader severe weather outbreak affecting Archer County, where another tornado was confirmed earlier in the day north of Archer City. Storm chasers, including Ryan Hall and Chad Casey, shared images and videos of the funnel cloud making contact with the ground near a local highway.
A tornado warning was issued for Archer County and the adjacent Clay County until 7:30 PM CDT. Meteorologists indicated that storms in the area could also generate large hail, potentially reaching two inches in diameter, along with damaging winds. Additional counties in North Texas, such as Dallas, Collin, Denton, Grayson, and Tarrant, were placed under a tornado watch until 11:00 PM CDT.
The NWS updated the public, stating, "A Tornado Watch is now in effect for much of North Texas until 11 PM tonight. Any storm could produce hail larger than softball size, several strong tornadoes, and damaging winds. Ensure you have multiple ways to receive alerts." Authorities have advised residents in the impacted areas to take necessary precautions as the storms progress. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time.
