Impact of Heavy Rainfall in Northeast India
The number of fatalities linked to incidents caused by heavy rainfall in Northeast India has tragically risen to 36, as reported on Tuesday.
These fatalities resulted from landslides and flooding that began on Friday.
Among the deceased, 11 were from Assam, 10 from Arunachal Pradesh, six from Meghalaya, five from Mizoram, three from Sikkim, and one from Tripura.
Over 550,000 individuals have been affected by the intense rainfall across various northeastern states, with approximately 530,000 of them in 22 districts of Assam.
On Sunday, Silchar district in Assam experienced an astonishing 415.8 mm of rain within a single day, marking the highest daily rainfall recorded since 1893.
In Manipur, flash floods impacted more than 56,000 people, with overflowing rivers causing damage to over 10,400 homes.
In Arunachal Pradesh, 156 villages across 23 districts were submerged, while over 10,000 individuals sought refuge in relief camps in Tripura.
Mizoram reported more than 550 landslides due to the heavy rains over the past ten days, resulting in the collapse or damage of over 150 homes, according to the state disaster management department.
Schools in Mizoram have remained closed for the fourth consecutive day, with the state capital Aizawl experiencing heavy rainfall on Tuesday morning.
