Severe Heatwave Hits Northern India with Rain Forecast for Northeast
Extreme Heat Conditions in Northern India
New Delhi. Intense heat is currently affecting Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and other parts of Northern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat alert for the northwestern plains and central regions of the country. Over the next 3-4 days, these areas are expected to experience heat waves, with temperatures soaring between 42-45°C in several states. Meanwhile, the northeastern states are predicted to face heavy rainfall and storms.
According to the IMD, heat wave conditions will persist in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh from April 24 to 27-28. Elevated nighttime temperatures may exacerbate the heat.
Heatwave Impact in Delhi-NCR
The national capital, Delhi, is grappling with severe heat. The weather department forecasts maximum temperatures to range between 41 to 44°C in the coming days. From April 25 to 27, strong winds accompanying the heat are also expected. Minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 25-27°C, keeping nights warm.
Severe Heat in Uttar Pradesh
Both western and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh will feel the heat, with temperatures potentially reaching 44°C. The IMD has issued a heat wave alert for western and eastern UP from April 24 to 27.
Conditions in Other States
Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana: Heat warnings are in effect for the next four days, with temperatures expected to remain significantly above normal.
Bihar: Heat effects are anticipated on April 24-25, followed by alerts for heavy winds and thunderstorms on April 26-27.
Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh: Rising temperatures alongside heat wave conditions are expected.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh: Heat impacts in the plains, with elevated temperatures in hilly areas as well.
In South India, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu are likely to experience humid heat with rain forecasts. Alerts for strong winds, lightning, and thunderstorms have been issued for these states until April 28.
Heavy Rain and Storms in the Northeast
Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to witness widespread rainfall this week. Some areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall along with strong storms (winds reaching 50-70 km/h) and lightning. The IMD has warned of very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam-Meghalaya from April 25 to 30.
