Cairo, Sep 16: Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi held discussions with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Cairo, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and regional security.
During their meeting on Tuesday, the leaders reached a consensus on fostering cooperation and addressing barriers that impede trade and investment between their nations, as stated by the Egyptian Presidency.
Sisi condemned any actions or threats that could jeopardize Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and stability, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to supporting the kingdom's security measures and advocating for a comprehensive political resolution to the ongoing crisis in Yemen.
In response, the Saudi crown prince acknowledged Egypt's role in promoting regional peace and stability, as well as its solidarity with Saudi Arabia amid current geopolitical tensions.
This meeting occurs against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Yemen's Houthi group and Saudi Arabia, as reported by various news outlets.
Recently, the Houthi group announced the launch of multiple ballistic missiles and drones targeting a significant military air base in southwestern Saudi Arabia.
Additionally, the group captured the strategic port of Mocha and advanced into the Bab al-Mandab Strait area, seizing Mayun Island, thereby tightening control over this crucial shipping route connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Earlier on Monday, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also met with Admiral Brad Cooper, Commander of the US Central Command, in Jeddah to discuss regional developments and the state of Saudi-US relations, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
