Bryan Moore, aged 38, has been named as the individual taken into custody following a tragic shooting event in Sandy, Oregon, which occurred on Sunday. This incident resulted in multiple fatalities and left a police officer injured, as reported by the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office. The situation began around 4 PM local time on May 31, when officers from Sandy Police and Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies responded to a domestic disturbance and potential shooting at 39500 Evans Street, located east of Portland.
Sandy Police Chief Patrick Huskey stated that officers arriving at the scene were met with gunfire and returned fire. During this exchange, one officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a hospital via Life Flight helicopter. Fortunately, the officer is currently in stable condition and is expected to recover.
Chief Huskey confirmed that several individuals were found deceased at the shooting site, although the exact number of victims has not yet been disclosed. Moore was apprehended several hours later, around 8 PM, and surrendered without any resistance. Huskey noted, "The suspect is in custody. They surrendered to law enforcement and there was no incident. He surrendered peacefully. There is no ongoing community threat."
Jail records indicate that Moore has been booked into Clackamas County Jail on charges of murder and kidnapping. In response to the situation, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for parts of the city, which was lifted following Moore's arrest. Chief Huskey described the event as a traumatic experience for the community, and investigations by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office and the Major Crimes Team are ongoing.
Sandy Mayor Kathleen Walker characterized the shooting as an act of domestic violence, emphasizing that the impact of this tragedy extends beyond the immediate area. "This tragedy reaches beyond the neighborhood where it happened," Walker stated. "It affects the families and friends of the victims, as well as the neighbors who witnessed the shootings and the aftermath."
