Russia's Commitment to Iran's Nuclear Issue

Beijing: On Wednesday, Russia's foreign minister emphasized Moscow's willingness to assist in addressing the enriched uranium situation in Iran.

This assistance could manifest in various ways, such as converting highly enriched uranium into fuel-grade uranium or transferring a portion to Russia for safe storage. Lavrov assured that any approach would respect Iran's undeniable right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, similar to the rights of other nations, during his two-day visit to Beijing.

Russia was a key participant in the 2015 agreement involving Iran and six major powers, which provided sanctions relief to Tehran in exchange for limiting its nuclear activities and allowing for increased international oversight. As part of this agreement, Moscow facilitated the removal of significant quantities of enriched uranium from Iran.

The Kremlin has consistently backed Iran politically, especially after the United States withdrew from the accord during Donald Trump's presidency.
