US-India Relations Deteriorate Under Trump

Washington: According to Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna, the relationship between the United States and India has reached its lowest point in three decades, primarily due to the detrimental policies of former President Donald Trump.

Speaking at the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum Leadership Summit in Washington, Khanna revealed that during his recent trip to China, he learned from India's ambassador that Trump's administration has eroded a generation of trust.

"I don't hold back my opinions. The US-India relationship is indeed at its lowest in 30 years," Khanna stated.

He criticized Trump's approach to foreign policy, particularly the conflict with Iran, which he claims has severely impacted gas prices in India. "If you doubt me, just ask External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar," he added.

Khanna emphasized that the ambassador in China expressed concern over the trust lost under Trump's leadership, stating, "If we fail to acknowledge the harm this President has caused, we are not facing reality."

He condemned Trump's aggressive stance towards Iran and Cuba, as well as the controversial idea of acquiring Greenland.

"America seems to have lost its moral compass, adopting a foreign policy that prioritizes power over principles, while we act as if everything is normal," Khanna remarked.

He further criticized Trump's rhetoric regarding immigration, highlighting the negative impact on student visas and the perception of foreign talent in the US.

Khanna pointed out that while Trump claims the US leads in artificial intelligence, a significant portion of top AI researchers are of Chinese descent, and many hold foreign degrees. "This President fails to recognize the importance of attracting talent rather than pushing it away," he stated.

Describing Trump as a 'lame duck,' Khanna expressed confidence that Democrats would secure victories in both the upcoming mid-term and the 2028 presidential elections.
