The US military utilized precision-guided munitions against various targets, including Bandar Abbas, aiming to diminish Iran's capacity to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM also confirmed a separate operation earlier that day against Iranian coastal defense and cruise missile sites on Greater Tunb Island, a crucial location overlooking a major maritime route.
These strikes are part of a broader US initiative to safeguard commercial shipping following a series of attacks on vessels in the Gulf and to enforce a renewed naval blockade on Iranian ports.

While the US maintains that its operations target military installations, Iranian officials reported that missile strikes impacted civilian areas. Hossein Kermanpour, head of the Public Relations and Information Centre at Iran's Ministry of Health, indicated that the vicinity of Boghayi Hospital 2 in Ahvaz, which specializes in cancer treatment, was struck.
In a statement on X, Kermanpour noted that terrified patients and their families evacuated the hospital amid powerful explosions, leaving only critically ill patients behind. Iranian authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding casualties or the specific target of the strike.
Additionally, Iran's state broadcaster IRIB reported minor damage to the Souza fish powder factory on Qeshm Island due to what officials described as an enemy attack. Fortunately, the facility was mostly unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.
