Pakistan's Fiscal Year 2026-27 Budget Announcement

Islamabad: The government of Pakistan is set to unveil its budget for the upcoming fiscal year on June 12, as confirmed by a senior official on Wednesday.

The Federal Budget for FY 2026-27 will be presented in the National Assembly by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, as stated by Khurram Schehzad, an adviser to the finance minister, in a post on X.

Additionally, the Economic Survey for the current fiscal year 2025-26 is scheduled for release on Thursday.

While specific details of the budget remain undisclosed, estimates suggest it could be approximately PKR 18 trillion.

Initially, the budget was planned for presentation on June 5, but was postponed due to disagreements with the Pakistan Peoples Party, led by President Asif Ali Zardari, according to official sources.

There were indications that the budget would be revealed on June 10, but that too was delayed.

Fortunately, the issues have been resolved, and Zardari has convened sessions for the National Assembly and Senate regarding the budget.

In a related context, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) on Wednesday, which is the principal economic decision-making body, to finalize development plans for both federal and provincial levels.

During the meeting, he emphasized that the center engaged in serious consultations with the provinces on all relevant matters, ensuring decisions were made in Pakistan's best interest.
