Pakistan's Diplomatic Efforts in Iran-US Negotiations
Islamabad: On Saturday, Ishaq Dar, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister, announced that the country is actively facilitating discussions between Iran and the United States, aiming to foster peace and stability in the region amidst ongoing uncertainties surrounding the negotiations.
During a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dar, who also serves as the foreign minister, reviewed the latest regional developments, as stated by the Foreign Office.
He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to supporting the Iran-US dialogue process, emphasizing that the nation will persist in its diplomatic efforts.
Dar clarified that only official statements from recognized sources should be considered as Pakistan's stance on the facilitation process, dismissing any unofficial comments from unnamed officials or social media as not reflective of the country's position.
He urged both print and electronic media to avoid speculative reporting and to focus solely on verified official communications.
In a related context, Dar engaged in discussions with Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, sharing updates on Pakistan's ongoing diplomatic initiatives.
He stressed that continuous dialogue and diplomacy are essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
Additionally, Dar spoke with Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, highlighting the significance of sustained diplomatic engagement.
Dar has been at the forefront of Pakistan's telephone diplomacy, maintaining regular communication with foreign ministers from various nations since the onset of tensions between the US and Iran.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Islamabad late Friday and met with Pakistani leaders on Saturday.
Earlier, Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Baqaei indicated via social media that no meetings were scheduled between Iran and the US.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that US Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, along with President Donald Trump's advisor Jared Kushner, would be traveling to Pakistan for direct discussions with the Iranian delegation.
However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the possibility of direct talks between Washington and Tehran during this visit.
