Pakistan's Official Response to Media Reports

On Saturday, Pakistan refuted media claims suggesting that its efforts to facilitate discussions between the United States and Iran had encountered obstacles following the exchange of initial proposals. The spokesperson for the Foreign Office, Tahir Andrabi, dismissed these reports as baseless and fabricated. He stated that numerous reports in the media and on social platforms have cited so-called government sources regarding ongoing conflicts in the region and Pakistan's attempts to promote peace and dialogue. He further emphasized that these false allegations attributed to alleged government sources are entirely unfounded and should be disregarded. Citing any government sources in this context is incorrect.

Clarification Amid Rising Speculations

This clarification came after a closed-door briefing by a senior official from Islamabad's Foreign Ministry, amidst increasing speculation. Andrabi noted that the controversy arose from a misinterpretation of the background briefing held at the Foreign Ministry on Friday. He expressed concern over how the reporting of this dialogue has been handled during a time of escalating tensions in the region. Therefore, he urged all media platforms to exercise due caution, avoid speculation, and rely solely on officially released statements and press releases for accurate and timely information.

Details from Recent Reports

Reports from various sources, including Pakistan's Dawn and the Wall Street Journal, indicated that there had been some progress in the exchange of messages between Washington and Tehran, but the pace had slowed due to a lack of clear responses from the Iranian side. The Wall Street Journal noted that Iran had refused to engage in discussions with any US-led delegation in Islamabad. Another report from Dawn, citing an official familiar with the talks, expressed surprise that despite significant destruction of naval, air force, and other military and civilian infrastructure, Iran had not responded positively to calls for dialogue.
