Oman Set to Host T20 World Cup Qualifiers


Dubai, July 10: Oman is gearing up to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier in October this year.


A total of nine teams will compete in this qualifier event.


The participating teams include Kuwait, Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Japan, and Samoa, alongside Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and the host nation, Oman, all vying for three spots in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.


Among these teams, Oman, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and UAE have previously participated in the Men’s T20 World Cup.


This tournament will span ten days, with the group stage scheduled from October 8 to 10.


The nine teams will be divided into three groups of three, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super Six stage, which will occur from October 12 to 17.


At the conclusion of the Super Six stage, the top three teams will secure their places in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to take place in India and Sri Lanka.


Group 1 consists of UAE, Malaysia, and Qatar, while Group 2 includes Nepal, Kuwait, and Japan, a rising contender from East Asia-Pacific. The host nation, Oman, is placed in Group 3 alongside Papua New Guinea and Samoa.


Additionally, the East Asia-Pacific women’s teams will also begin their journey towards the T20 World Cup 2026, with their qualifying event scheduled for September.


The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier will be held from September 9 to 15 in Suva, Fiji, where the hosts will compete against Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Japan, Samoa, Cook Islands, and the Philippines.


Teams will be organized into two groups of four, leading to a final where the winning team will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
