On Saturday, New Zealand's Prime Minister Christopher Luxon expressed admiration for Kane Williamson, the former captain of the national cricket team, following his retirement from international cricket. Luxon referred to Williamson as one of the greatest players in the history of the Black Caps, emphasizing his achievements, humility, and significant contributions to New Zealand cricket.

Williamson concluded his illustrious 16-year career by announcing his retirement from international cricket on Friday, leaving behind an impressive legacy filled with records and milestones.

In a post shared on X, PM Luxon praised Williamson's impact on New Zealand cricket and the legacy he has created. He stated, "Kane Williamson will always be regarded as one of the greatest Black Caps ever, not only for his exceptional skills—being the top run-scorer for New Zealand in international cricket—but also for his exemplary conduct throughout his career."


Luxon further acknowledged Williamson's journey, noting that he has made both his family and country proud. He remarked, "He is a true class act, a humble individual from the Bay of Plenty who rose to become one of the finest cricketers in the sport's history. Williamson's Impressive Batting Records

Throughout his extensive international career, Williamson participated in 378 matches, establishing numerous batting records and earning widespread respect in the cricketing community.


At 35, he stands as New Zealand's all-time leading run-scorer with a total of 19,346 runs, which includes 48 centuries and six double-centuries, as reported by the New Zealand Cricket (NZC) website.


Williamson holds the record for the most Test runs for New Zealand, amassing 9,515 runs, including 33 centuries and six double-centuries. He is also the first player to achieve centuries in four consecutive Test matches.


In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he ranks fourth for New Zealand with 7,256 runs and 14 centuries, while in T20 Internationals, he is second with 2,575 runs.


Captaincy and Leadership Legacy

Beyond his statistics, Williamson's leadership was highly regarded. He captained the Black Caps across all formats during a successful era from 2016 to 2024, leading the team to two ICC World Cup Finals, three semi-finals, and winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship in 2021.


Under his captaincy, New Zealand played 40 Test matches, achieving 22 victories, 10 losses, and 8 draws, placing him second to Stephen Fleming, who has 28 wins from 80 Tests.
