New Developments in the Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie
Investigation Update on Nancy Guthrie's Case
The inquiry into the missing person case of Nancy Guthrie, mother of television host Savannah Guthrie, has shifted direction as authorities have retracted their earlier request for neighborhood surveillance footage. Officials in Tucson, Arizona, announced they are no longer concentrating on footage from January 11, a date that was previously considered crucial to the investigation. Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, has been missing since February 1, with investigators suspecting she may have been abducted from her residence.
Initially, the Pima County Sheriff's Department had requested that local residents check their security cameras for recordings dating back to mid-January, indicating that a potential suspect might have been in the vicinity weeks prior to her disappearance. This request was based on an image from a Nest doorbell camera that allegedly showed a person near her home. Authorities sought footage from specific time frames between January 11 and January 31.
However, Sheriff Chris Nanos later stated that the relevance of January 11 was reconsidered after concerns were raised regarding the accuracy of the timestamp on the image. Reports indicate that detectives reached out to Google, the parent company of the Nest system, to confirm the timing of the footage. Initially, Google suggested the image might have been taken on January 11, but later clarified that the timestamp could not be verified.
Consequently, the request for footage from that date was withdrawn due to uncertainty about its connection to the case. Investigators are still analyzing other evidence, including previously released video that shows a masked individual tampering with a doorbell camera outside Guthrie's home in the early hours of February 1. Officials have noted that this person may have visited the property prior to her disappearance, but no confirmed leads have surfaced from earlier requests for information. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities encouraging anyone with pertinent information to step forward.
