Netanyahu's Firm Stance Against Iran's Nuclear Ambitions
Netanyahu's Warning to Iran
On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to Iran amidst ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran aimed at establishing a peace agreement. In a post on X, Netanyahu asserted that he would not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, stating, "As long as I am Prime Minister of Israel—Iran will not have nuclear weapons." He emphasized that he shares a complete consensus with US President Donald Trump regarding the threat posed by Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Netanyahu accused Iran of seeking to annihilate Israel, declaring that under his leadership, such a scenario would never materialize. He reflected on his three-decade-long commitment to combating Iran's nuclear program, claiming that without his efforts, Iran would have already developed atomic weapons capable of threatening Israel. "Iran is intent on destroying the Jewish state, and I dedicate my life to thwarting their plans. As long as I am Prime Minister of Israel, this will not happen," he wrote.
In a related development, it was reported that Netanyahu was not informed by Trump about the cancellation of military strikes on Iran. Following Trump's announcement that he had halted planned operations against Iranian targets, Axios reported that Netanyahu was caught off guard by the decision, which Trump made public without prior warning. This unexpected announcement has added complexity to the already intricate relationship between the two leaders, highlighting growing differences in their approaches to dealing with Tehran.
As the US pushes for a peace agreement with Iran, Israel insists that maintaining military pressure is crucial to prevent Iran from expanding its influence in the region. Trump revealed on Thursday that he had called off the strikes after receiving indications that Iran was ready to move forward with a draft agreement. He stated on Truth Social, "Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening."
