Prime Minister Modi Receives Ghana's National Honor
Accra, July 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the prestigious title of “Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana” in recognition of his exceptional leadership and impactful global presence.
The award was presented to Modi by Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday.
During his acceptance speech, Modi expressed that receiving this honor is a significant moment for him.
“I graciously accept this award on behalf of the 1.4 billion Indians,” he stated, dedicating the accolade to the hopes and bright futures of the youth in both nations, as well as to the historical connections and cultural richness shared between Ghana and India.
“This recognition also brings with it a responsibility to foster a stronger friendship between India and Ghana. India will always support the people of Ghana and remain a reliable partner in development,” he added in a social media update.
Modi expressed gratitude towards the Ghanaian people and government for this distinguished recognition, emphasizing that the mutual democratic values and traditions would continue to strengthen their partnership.
He noted that this award enhances the friendship between the two nations and imposes a new duty on him to promote and advance bilateral relations.
Other notable recipients of the “Order of the Star of Ghana” include Queen Elizabeth II, Nelson Mandela, Kofi Annan, King Charles III, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, and Giorgio Napolitano, the former president of Italy.
Modi expressed optimism that his significant state visit to Ghana would bring renewed energy to India-Ghana relations, as stated by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
“This is a reflection of the deep-rooted and enduring ties between India and Ghana,” remarked MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on social media.
Prior to the award ceremony, Modi engaged in extensive discussions with Mahama, resulting in the elevation of India-Ghana relations to a comprehensive partnership.
This visit marks the first time in three decades that an Indian Prime Minister has traveled to Ghana.
