Unexplained Numbers Appear on National Mall

On Thursday, the National Mall in Washington, DC, was the site of an unusual occurrence as markings showing the numbers "8647" emerged, leading to an investigation by federal officials. These numbers were discernible from the Washington Monument and manifested as patches of grass that appeared discolored or dead, particularly near the World War II Memorial. Reports indicate that these markings were not present in images captured on June 5, suggesting they are a recent phenomenon.

A photographer from Reuters spotted the markings shortly before federal agents arrived to assess the situation. The number "8" was the most distinct, while the "6" and "7" were less clear, and the "4" was the faintest. The origin and method of creating these markings remain unknown.

The US Park Police responded to a vandalism report around 11:30 AM, collecting grass samples for analysis. The cause of the discoloration is still under investigation. Emergency vehicles were seen cordoning off the area as authorities conducted their examination. While the Secret Service and FBI directed questions to the US Park Police, a law enforcement source mentioned that the Secret Service would provide assistance if a suspect is identified.

The numbers "8647" have been linked to anti-Trump sentiments, with the term "86" often used to signify the removal of something, and Trump being the 47th president of the United States. This phrase gained notoriety last year when former FBI Director James Comey posted a photo on Instagram of seashells arranged to read "86 47," which he later deleted, citing it as a political statement and expressing surprise at its violent associations.

The Department of the Interior condemned the act, labeling it as "deranged vandalism" and emphasizing that any threats against the president would be taken seriously. Officials affirmed that those responsible would face consequences once identified.
