As Shubman Gill embarks on his Test captaincy journey with remarkable performances, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has raised concerns regarding the pitch conditions in England during the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Starc humorously remarked, "I wouldn’t bowl to Gill in England, that’s for sure." He admitted to not watching much of the action but kept an eye on the scorecards, noting that players like Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, and Steve Smith would gather around the coffee machine to catch the games.

He further questioned the quality of the wickets, stating, "Based on the scores, those pitches seemed harsh for bowlers. I’ve heard people say they were almost like subcontinent pitches, which is hard to believe in England."

Since taking over as India’s Test captain, Shubman Gill has silenced critics regarding his technique and temperament. During the podcast, Australian cricketer Alyssa Healy asked Starc if the high-scoring matches in England raised any concerns ahead of the Ashes. Starc dismissed such worries, emphasizing that pitch conditions in Australia would be vastly different.

"I’m not reading into any of that," Starc stated. "It’s like them observing us here in Australia where batting is challenging. If we’re looking at those games and thinking, ‘Oh, they’re playing on absolute highways,’ what do you make of a Test where teams score 300 and still get bowled out?"

He added, "They’re clearly not playing for draws, and that’s likely the significant takeaway."
