Melania Trump's Strong Response to Kimmel's Comments

First Lady Melania Trump has publicly criticized late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, labeling him a "coward" after he made controversial remarks leading up to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which was later marred by a shooting incident. In a post shared on X, Melania stated, "Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric aims to divide our nation. His comments about my family are not comedic; they are harmful and exacerbate the political turmoil in America." This statement follows a shooting that occurred on Saturday at the annual dinner in Washington DC, where a gunman attempted to breach a security checkpoint, resulting in minor injuries to a US Secret Service agent. The suspect, 31-year-old Cole Allen, has been apprehended and is anticipated to face several federal charges.

Just two days prior to the event, Kimmel had used his show to deliver a parody monologue regarding the dinner, during which he made remarks about the First Lady, saying, "Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow." He also poked fun at the couple’s marriage, jokingly introducing them as if they were strangers. Melania further criticized ABC, the network airing Kimmel’s show, accusing them of protecting him from facing consequences for his words. "A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will continue to shield him," she remarked. "Enough is enough. It’s time for ABC to take a stand."

This dinner marked the first time President Donald Trump and Melania attended together since his election victory in 2016. During the event, gunfire was heard while Melania was seated at the head table with the president and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. She appeared visibly distressed and was escorted to safety by Secret Service agents. The couple later returned to the White House briefing room, where the president addressed the shooting incident. Melania looked emotional as he spoke about past threats to his life.

Kimmel has faced backlash in the past for his comments. In September 2025, he was temporarily taken off the air due to criticism over remarks related to the murder of political activist Charlie Kirk. Upon his return, he expressed, "It was never my intention to trivialize the murder of a young man. I don’t find anything humorous about it." At that time, President Trump expressed his disapproval of Kimmel's reinstatement, posting on Truth Social, "I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back."
