A Historic Farewell in Tehran

Tehran: During the funeral of Iran's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a poet named Mohammad Rasouli incited the crowd of hundreds of thousands by demanding the death of former US President Donald Trump. This event took place on a Sunday in the capital city.

Rasouli's remarks prompted chants of 'Death to America!' and 'Death to Israel!' from the audience.

He provocatively questioned, 'Why is the most despicable man in the world still alive?' which was met with enthusiastic cheers.

The turnout for the funeral was significantly larger than the previous day, with mourners clad in black marching towards the venue, brandishing banners and flags that honored Khamenei while also calling for Trump's demise, coinciding with Trump's speech in Washington celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Khamenei, who led Iran for many years, was killed at the age of 86 during an airstrike on February 28, marking the onset of the Iran war. His funeral could potentially strengthen the country's theocratic leadership and support for his successor, his son Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

This event holds significance as Iran seeks to assert its influence over the Strait of Hormuz amid ongoing negotiations with the US regarding a permanent resolution to the conflict, while concerns about potential Israeli military actions remain.

The funeral proceedings were postponed due to the ongoing war, and diplomatic discussions are currently on hold until hostilities cease.
