During the incident at Malir Jail in Karachi on Monday night, one prisoner lost their life, while three members of the paramilitary Frontier Corps and a jail staff member sustained injuries, according to Geo News.

Prison officials have confirmed that more than 80 of the escaped prisoners have been recaptured.

Karachi has been shaken by a series of earthquakes over the past day.

Jail Superintendent Arshad Shah reported that over 600 inmates were evacuated from their cells during the seismic activity.

He stated, "In the midst of the turmoil, 216 inmates managed to escape," as quoted in the report.

Currently, more than 135 prisoners are still unaccounted for, and efforts to locate them are ongoing.

Law enforcement agencies have initiated a coordinated operation to apprehend the remaining escapees.

Sindh's Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar described this incident as the "most serious jailbreak" in recent memory.

The minister confirmed that all escaped inmates have been identified, and targeted operations are being conducted at their homes and surrounding areas.

He also announced that an inquiry committee will be established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the jailbreak.

At the time of the incident, Malir Jail housed over 6,000 inmates, the majority of whom were incarcerated for drug-related offenses, according to prison officials.
