Tehran: In a striking display of nationalism, Iranian authorities organized mass weddings in Tehran for couples willing to pledge their lives in the ongoing conflict with the United States. These couples participated in a state-sponsored initiative, expressing their commitment to sacrifice for their country. The ceremonies took place on May 19, with hundreds of couples attending, including over 100 at Imam Hossein Square, as reported by various media outlets.

The entire event was broadcast on Iranian television, aiming to uplift the spirits of the populace during wartime, with numerous videos circulating on social media. Reports indicate that notable figures, including parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and President Masoud Pezeshkian, have also expressed their willingness to join the 'self-sacrifice' initiative.
Couples arrived at the venue in military vehicles equipped with machine guns and exchanged vows on a stage adorned with balloons, officiated by a cleric. A large portrait of the supreme leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei was prominently displayed in the background. Khamenei has not made a public appearance since his appointment as the next supreme leader following the death of Ayatollah Khamenei due to US and Israeli strikes on Tehran on February 28.
One bride, dressed in a traditional white Islamic gown, expressed her sentiments, stating, 'Certainly, the country is at war, but young people also have the right to marry,' as she stood beside her groom in a video shared by the Mehr news agency.
