Marquez Triumphs at the 2026 Motul Grand Prix of Japan
Marquez Narrows the Gap
The 2026 Motul Grand Prix of Japan showcased an exhilarating double win for Marc Marquez from the Ducati Lenovo Team, who overtook his championship rival Jorge Martin of Aprilia Racing on Sunday. This victory has significantly reduced the points gap as the series heads to Indonesia next.
Jorge Martin, the reigning World Champion, secured crucial 20 points to maintain his lead in the title race. Meanwhile, his teammate Marco Bezzecchi managed to withstand late pressure from Enea Bastianini of Red Bull KTM Tech3 to secure a podium finish. With only two points separating Martin and Marquez, the MotoGP season is set to continue in Indonesia for the Pertamina Grand Prix.
Race Dynamics at Motegi
Before the Grand Prix, the hot topic was whether to choose the hard or medium rear Michelin tire. Ultimately, all riders opted for the recommended hard rear option, making it a challenging decision given the limited practice on this tire throughout the weekend. With 24 laps ahead, the race commenced at the Mobility Resort Motegi.
