During his four-day visit to India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a new visa initiative called the America First visa, designed to prioritize business professionals and enhance bilateral relations. Following a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Rubio held his first press briefing at the inauguration of the US Embassy Support Annex Building, where he detailed the new visa program.
Rubio emphasized the importance of this initiative for US mission officials, stating, "The Americans who work here, the men and women of this mission, are at the forefront of advancing America's national interest and security. It’s an honor to be here today." He further noted that the new facility would lead to cost savings and increased efficiency in operations.

In his address at the US embassy, Rubio discussed the personal relationship between PM Modi and President Trump, highlighting its development since the President's first visit to India. He remarked on the significance of the connection between the two leaders, stating, "These are two serious leaders focused on both short-term and long-term goals." Regarding the Quad alliance, Rubio mentioned that his first official meeting as Secretary of State was with Quad members, reaffirming the importance of India's role in the Indo-Pacific region.
Bilateral Discussions and Future Engagements
Rubio Meets PM Modi, Extends Trump's Invitation
Secretary Rubio met with PM Modi to discuss various facets of India-US relations, including defense, trade, energy, and technology. This meeting took place shortly after Rubio's arrival in New Delhi from Kolkata. US Ambassador Sergio Gor indicated that Rubio conveyed an invitation from President Trump for PM Modi to visit the White House soon.
PM Modi expressed his satisfaction with the discussions, emphasizing the ongoing progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and the importance of regional and global peace. The Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. He also asked Rubio to extend his warm regards to President Trump.
Ambassador Gor confirmed that Rubio extended the invitation for PM Modi to visit the White House. On Sunday, Rubio is expected to engage in bilateral talks with Jaishankar and participate in the US Embassy's Independence Day celebrations.
