A Call for European Unity

Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has urged European nations to take a more proactive stance in safeguarding their interests, emphasizing that the US, China, and Russia are currently opposed to Europe. He described this period as a crucial 'wake-up' call for the continent. During a dialogue with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, hosted by the Kathimerini newspaper in Athens, Macron expressed concerns about the reliability of the United States as an ally. He stated, 'We must recognize that we are in a unique situation where the leaders of the US, Russia, and China are all against Europe. This is the perfect time for us to awaken.'

Macron highlighted the importance of European self-confidence and the need to establish a clear agenda. Reflecting on the onset of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, he noted that many doubted Europe's ability to respond effectively. However, he pointed out that from the very first day, Europe imposed sanctions on Russia with unanimous support, and the ongoing sanctions have significantly impacted the Russian economy. 'Do not fall for misinformation — they are indeed suffering,' he asserted. Regarding the US, Macron remarked, 'While the US is seen as a leading power and a potential ally for some nations, its reliability remains uncertain, and many are unsure of its dependability.'
