Luxury Travelers in the Middle East Face Evacuation Amid Rising Tensions
Chaos in the Middle East: A Traveler's Nightmare
For many vacationers in the affluent and secure regions of the Middle East, what was once a dream getaway has turned into a distressing ordeal. These countries are now under threat from Iran, with many air travel routes currently suspended. The situation has escalated into turmoil as Iran retaliates against several nations in the region following a US-Israel military operation that commenced on February 28. Reports indicate that wealthy individuals are seeking to escape the Gulf, with some reportedly spending as much as £260,000 (approximately Rs 3,19,14,428) to charter private jets out of the area.
According to Semafor, those being evacuated include high-ranking executives from global firms, many of whom were either on leisure trips or business engagements. With missile strikes targeting cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Bahrain, numerous flights have been canceled. However, Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (RUH) remains operational and has emerged as a key departure hub.
Individuals attempting to leave the Gulf are reportedly hiring SUVs through private security firms to reach Riyadh, where they can board chartered flights. The surge in demand for these vehicles has led to a spike in their prices. Currently, private jet fares from Riyadh to Europe are reaching up to £260,000 (around Rs 3,19,14,428).
The Middle East is engulfed in a significant crisis following the US and Israel's military action against Iran, which was executed around 1:15 am ET on Saturday and dubbed 'Operation Epic Fury.' Iranian state media later reported the death of Ayatollah Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of Iran, as a result of the attack. In response, Iran is now targeting other nations in the region.
