Laura Loomer Criticizes Pakistan's Role in Iran Conflict Mediation
Laura Loomer's Controversial Remarks
Laura Loomer, a prominent activist supporting former President Trump, has ridiculed Pakistan's attempts to mediate in the Iran conflict. This comes a day after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed on X that Pakistan is fully backing dialogue efforts aimed at resolving the ongoing Middle Eastern crisis. Loomer, known for her provocative statements, took to social media to criticize Islamabad, questioning the credibility of a nation she labeled as a 'terrorist state' involved in negotiations with another 'Islamic terrorist regime.' She highlighted recent incidents where Pakistani citizens allegedly attacked US consulates and made threats against India.
In her post, Loomer stated, "Ah that's exactly what we need. The terrorist Pakistani government negotiating an end to a war with another Islamic Terrorist regime. This is the same Pakistan whose citizens stormed the US consulates in Pakistan weeks ago, where they attempted to murder American consulate employees. Pakistan is a terrorist state. They just threatened to nuke India last week." Meanwhile, reports indicate that Iran has received a 15-point proposal from the US aimed at achieving a ceasefire, although Tehran has denied any involvement in discussions with the US.
Details on Pakistan's Mediation Efforts
Pakistani Officials' Insights on Iran Talks
Pakistani officials have characterized the US proposal as encompassing various aspects, including sanctions relief, civilian nuclear cooperation, limitations on Iran's missile capabilities, and monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The US appears to be pursuing an end to the conflict, even as troop deployments to the Middle East continue. The plan was reportedly conveyed to Iran through intermediaries from Pakistan, which has expressed its willingness to host renewed negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Shehbaz Sharif's Statement on Mediation
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that Pakistan is 'ready and honoured' to facilitate 'meaningful and conclusive talks' between the US and Iran to resolve the ongoing conflict. This statement followed reports of backdoor negotiations involving Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkiye aimed at fostering peace in the region. Sharif emphasized Pakistan's commitment to supporting dialogue for stability in the Middle East, stating, 'Subject to concurrence by the US and Iran, Pakistan stands ready and honoured to be the host to facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks for a comprehensive settlement of the ongoing conflict.'
Shortly after, former President Trump shared Sharif's post on his Truth Social platform.
