Knife Attack in Paris Leaves Three Women Injured

On Monday morning, a man wielding two kitchen knives reportedly assaulted three women in northern Paris. The attack took place around 11:30 a.m. in the Porte de Clichy neighborhood. French authorities confirmed that the victims, aged 19, 24, and 36, were taken to the hospital following the incident, as stated by French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez and local police.

Victims' Conditions

Two of the women sustained severe injuries, with one suffering a stab wound to her lower back and another being stabbed in the abdomen. Notably, one of the injured women is pregnant, according to Geoffroy Boulard, the mayor of the 17th arrondissement of Paris.

Apprehension of the Attacker

An off-duty police officer managed to subdue the alleged assailant before additional law enforcement arrived on the scene. As of now, the suspect's identity and motive remain undisclosed, and it is uncertain if anti-terrorism prosecutors will take charge of the investigation.

Witness Account

A witness, Kheira Dellabed, a 54-year-old waitress, recounted the dramatic events, stating she witnessed the attacker stab the three women. She described how a passerby with a small suitcase intervened by striking the assailant, causing him to fall to the ground. Another nearby waiter then used a chair to help restrain the suspect.

Suspect's Remarks Under Scrutiny

Footage circulating on social media appears to show the suspect making a statement while being restrained, claiming, "It is Allah who commanded me." However, Minister Nunez cautioned against jumping to conclusions regarding the suspect's intentions, labeling his comments as "incoherent statements" and emphasizing that investigators are still piecing together the details of the attack.

Ongoing Investigations

Authorities have secured the area for forensic analysis, and the two knives believed to have been used in the attack were located nearby. This incident in Paris follows closely on the heels of a violent event in Berlin, where an individual known to authorities as an Islamic extremist drove a minivan into a Pride parade, resulting in one fatality and 29 injuries. French investigators have not suggested any links between the two incidents.
