London: On Tuesday, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reaffirmed his determination to remain in his position, despite increasing pressure to resign.

During a meeting with Cabinet members, Starmer acknowledged the significant losses his Labour Party faced in the recent local elections throughout the UK, yet he expressed his intention to continue leading.

He emphasized that there is a formal procedure for removing a leader, which has not yet been initiated.

"The nation expects us to focus on governance," he stated. "That is precisely what I am committed to doing, and it is our responsibility to proceed accordingly."

Earlier in the day, Starmer experienced his first ministerial resignation.

Miatta Fahnbulleh, the minister for housing, communities, and local government, stepped down, urging Starmer to take the necessary steps for the country's benefit and establish a timeline for his departure.

Fahnbulleh, a junior minister aligned with the party's left wing, expressed pride in her contributions but criticized the government for failing to act with the urgency and vision that voters had anticipated.

"We have not governed as a Labour Party that is clear about its principles and resolute in its beliefs," she remarked.
