The event, organized by local authorities and the Indian Ex-Servicemen League, featured floral tributes, an oath of patriotism, and participation from community members and NCC cadets. Mayor Gopal Nag emphasized the pride of Palampur in its heroes, reminding attendees of the courage displayed during the Kargil War. On the occasion of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, heartfelt ceremonies took place in Palampur, the birthplace of Param Vir Chakra recipient Capt Vikram Batra, who symbolized India's triumph in the 1999 Kargil War.


The event was collaboratively organized by the Sub-Divisional Administration and the Indian Ex-Servicemen League, filled with patriotic spirit and sincere tributes to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice.



A floral tribute was presented at the statues of Capt Vikram Batra, Capt Saurabh Kalia, and Ashok Chakra awardee Maj Sudhir Walia. Family members of Captain Batra and martyr Capt Saurabh Kalia, including his father NK Kalia and brother Vaibhav Kalia, joined dignitaries, officers, and veterans in paying their respects.


Among the attendees were Palampur Municipal Corporation Mayor Gopal Nag, Deputy Mayor Rajkumar, SDM Netra Meti, Tehsildar Sajan Bagga, DFO Sanjeev Sharma, and Additional Commissioner Vikas Sharma. The Indian Ex-Servicemen League was represented by President Ramesh Dadhwal, Vice-Presidents Santosh Katoch and Rasan Chand Katoch, General Secretary Ranjeet Katoch, and Press Secretary Kuldeep Rana, along with retired Colonel Suresh Kumar.


Mayor Gopal Nag emphasized that this day serves as a powerful reminder of the extraordinary bravery and sacrifices made by India's soldiers during the Kargil War. He expressed pride in Palampur being the home of heroes like Capt. Vikram Batra and Capt. Saurabh Kalia, who gave their lives for the nation.

Prior to the tributes, SDM Netra Meti led an oath-taking ceremony for all attendees, committing to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and sacrifice represented by the Kargil martyrs. She remarked, “This day is not solely about remembering our heroes, but also about drawing inspiration from their bravery and dedication.”


The ceremony saw enthusiastic participation from NCC cadets from local colleges, retired servicemen, and community members. The atmosphere was filled with patriotic slogans as wreaths were laid, honoring the memories of the fallen heroes.


Kargil Vijay Diwas, celebrated every year on July 26, marks India's victory over Pakistani forces during the high-altitude conflict in 1999.
