Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam celebrated a significant victory against Pakistan's Sumama Rehman, dedicating his win to the Kargil War heroes. This triumph secured his spot in the men's 55kg quarterfinals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, following a decisive 5-0 unanimous decision on Sunday.

The 22-year-old showcased an impressive performance, dominating the match and keeping India's hopes for a medal alive in this weight category. After the match, Jadumani expressed his respect for the Kargil heroes and committed to striving for gold in Glasgow. Notably, his victory coincided with July 26, a day commemorated as Kargil Vijay Diwas in India. "I dedicate my win to the Kargil heroes. I felt great winning against Pakistan. I will perform even better in the quarterfinals and secure a Gold for India," he stated.

Strong Performance Against Pakistan

On the same day, the nation honored the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan lived up to expectations, with Jadumani maintaining control throughout, earning unanimous support from all five judges.

Advancing to the Quarterfinals

Rehman entered the match after receiving a bye in the first round, while Jadumani had already made a mark with a 5-0 unanimous decision win over Scotland's Aaron Cullen in the Round of 32. This latest victory propelled the Manipuri boxer into the quarterfinals, where he will compete on Tuesday for a chance to reach the semifinals. A win in this round would guarantee him at least a bronze medal, as both losing semifinalists in Commonwealth Games boxing receive bronze.

Consistent Performance and Previous Achievements

Jadumani, who previously secured a silver medal in the 50kg category at the World Boxing Cup Finals in Noida last year, has transitioned to the 55kg division this season. He has displayed remarkable form throughout the tournament, achieving back-to-back unanimous decision victories.

India's Successful Day in Glasgow

India's campaign in Glasgow continued to thrive across various sports on Sunday. Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu clinched her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's 48kg weightlifting event. Additionally, Chanambam Rishikanta Singh earned silver in the men's 60kg category, while Raja Muthupandi contributed to the medal tally with silver in the men's 65kg weightlifting event.
