In a recent video address, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces are on the verge of taking control of Bint Jbeil, which he referred to as Hezbollah’s stronghold in the region. His comments come in the context of ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese territory and increasing global calls for a cessation of hostilities. Netanyahu also directed the military to bolster the security zone in southern Lebanon while pursuing peace negotiations with Beirut. He emphasized that these discussions, which have not occurred in over four decades, are now possible due to Israel's strength and the interest of various nations, not just Lebanon.

A senior official from Hezbollah, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned to Al Jazeera that Iran's influence over the Strait of Hormuz could provide it with the necessary leverage to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire in Lebanon. The official indicated that Iran aims to incorporate Lebanon into its temporary ceasefire arrangement with the United States and Israel during ongoing peace discussions in Pakistan. Netanyahu has reiterated that Israel's primary goals in negotiations with Lebanon are to dismantle Hezbollah and establish a lasting peace that is secured through strength. Israel's military leadership has sanctioned ongoing operations in Lebanon, with Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir asserting that US and Israeli strikes have significantly weakened Iranian defense capabilities. He stated, "We must prevent any advancements regarding their nuclear ambitions, particularly in Hormuz and other critical issues. We are prepared to execute immediate and powerful strikes." Zamir added that Israel is actively capturing and securing vital areas to eliminate threats to its northern settlements. Since the onset of the conflict, more than 2,100 individuals have lost their lives, and over 7,000 have sustained injuries in Lebanon, as reported by the country's health ministry.
