Irfan Pathan Raises Concerns Over Abhishek Sharma's Batting Form
Pathan's Analysis of Abhishek Sharma
Irfan Pathan, the former Indian all-rounder, has voiced his worries regarding Abhishek Sharma's recent batting performance. In India's latest match against the West Indies, Sharma scored only 10 runs off 11 balls. Although he had previously showcased his talent with a half-century against Zimbabwe, Pathan believes that Sharma needs to make some technical adjustments. He noted, "One concern is Abhishek Sharma's form again. After scoring that fifty, it felt like he would continue making runs, but when he went for that shot, his back knee was bent too much, and his body weight was falling backwards. Ideally, more weight should have been on the front foot, as that suits him better. He will need to pay attention to that," as shared on his YouTube channel.
Match Recap: India vs West Indies
In the recent match, India won the toss and chose to field first. The West Indies started strong, with Roston Chase scoring 40 runs off 25 balls and captain Shai Hope contributing 32 runs off 33 balls, forming a solid 68-run opening partnership. However, the West Indies faced a setback, falling to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, despite a quick 27 runs off 12 balls from Shimron Hetmyer. Jason Holder (37* off 22 balls) and Nicholas Pooran (34* off 19 balls) managed to stabilize the innings, leading the West Indies to a total of 195/4 in their 20 overs.
Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, finishing with figures of 2/36, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya each conceded 40 runs in their four-over spells.
India's Successful Chase
During India's batting innings, the team found themselves at 41/2 during the powerplay. A crucial 58-run partnership between Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav (who scored 18 runs) helped stabilize the innings. Contributions from Sanju Samson, Tilak Varma (27 runs off 15 balls), Hardik Pandya (17 runs), and Shivam Dube (8* runs) ultimately led India to a five-wicket victory.
Pathan's Thoughts on Suryakumar Yadav
Irfan Pathan also commented on Suryakumar Yadav, emphasizing the importance of converting starts into significant innings. He stated, "Suryakumar will need to score runs against bigger teams, and that is something he must keep in mind." Yadav has been the leading run-scorer for India in the tournament, accumulating 231 runs in seven innings, but has struggled to deliver a substantial performance since his unbeaten 84 against the USA.
Upcoming Semi-Final
