Iran's Diplomatic Efforts in Pakistan

Upon his arrival in Russia on Monday, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described his recent visit to Islamabad as "very productive," highlighting fruitful discussions with Pakistan's leadership. His comments come at a time of uncertainty regarding the upcoming peace talks aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Although a second round of negotiations between the US and Iran was anticipated during Araghchi's visit, he clarified that no direct meetings were scheduled. US President Donald Trump had previously canceled the trip of Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad.

In a video shared on his Telegram channel after reaching St. Petersburg, Araghchi stated, "We held good consultations with our friends in Pakistan. The trip was successful. We assessed the outcomes of our recent meetings and discussed the future direction and conditions for the talks." He also noted that developments had occurred in the negotiations, despite previous rounds failing to achieve their goals due to the US's excessive demands and approach.

Araghchi emphasized the importance of consulting with Pakistan regarding the latest developments in the US-Israeli conflict against Iran, expressing optimism that these discussions would prove significant. Meanwhile, President Trump reiterated his stance, stating that any agreement to end the two-month-long conflict with Iran hinges on two conditions: Iran must not possess nuclear weapons, or else there would be no basis for negotiations.
