Iran's Foreign Minister Calls for Respect Amid Tensions with Trump
Iran's Diplomatic Plea
Tehran: On Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi urged US President Donald Trump to adopt a more respectful tone when discussing Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He cautioned that disrespectful language could jeopardize any future negotiations between the two nations.
Araghchi emphasized that mutual respect is essential for any serious dialogue. He stated, “If President Trump genuinely seeks a deal, he must abandon the disrespectful tone directed at Ayatollah Khamenei and stop offending his millions of devoted followers,” in a post shared on X.
He elaborated on the resilience of the Iranian people, likening it to the intricate craftsmanship of their carpets, which symbolize hard work and patience. He asserted, “We understand our worth, cherish our independence, and will not allow others to dictate our future.”
The Foreign Minister also pointed out that Iranians do not respond well to threats. He remarked, “The proud Iranian people, who demonstrated their strength against the Israeli regime, do not tolerate threats and insults. If misconceptions lead to grave errors, Iran will not hesitate to reveal its true capabilities, dispelling any illusions about its power. Goodwill fosters goodwill, and respect breeds respect.”
These comments followed President Trump's remarks on his social media platform, where he claimed to have saved Khamenei from a 'disgraceful death' and accused him of falsely declaring victory over Israel.
Trump questioned why Khamenei would make such a statement, asserting that the Iranian leader's country had suffered significant destruction and that he had prevented a major attack on Tehran.
He also mentioned that he had been working on potential sanctions relief for Iran, which he believed could aid in the country's recovery. However, he expressed frustration over Iran's response, stating, “Instead, I was met with anger and disgust, leading me to halt all efforts regarding sanctions.”
Earlier this week, Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel after a period of intense military conflict, urging both parties to exercise restraint.
