Prior to Iran's opening match against New Zealand on Monday, a large crowd of protesters gathered outside the stadium to voice their dissent against the Iranian government, as reported by a media outlet.

FIFA's Ban Challenged Inside the Stadium

Inside SoFi Stadium, the pre-revolutionary flag was prominently featured among the fans, who showcased it on banners, flags, and T-shirts, despite FIFA's regulations. FIFA had previously stated that such displays could breach their code of conduct, which prohibits political, offensive, or discriminatory items at tournament venues.

Security Measures and Their Effectiveness

Security at the venue was notably strict, requiring attendees to go through metal detectors and bag checks. Security personnel requested that fans wearing T-shirts with the pre-revolutionary flag remove them. When fans indicated they had no alternative clothing, they were told to turn their shirts inside out.
