Melbourne, August 5: On Wednesday, Australian officials announced that they are treating a July 2025 attack on a defense manufacturer in Melbourne as a potential act of terrorism.
The incident occurred at Lovitt Technologies, located in the northeastern suburbs, during the early hours of July 5, where multiple vehicles were set ablaze and the facility was vandalized, according to reports from a news agency.
A joint statement from the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO), and Victoria Police confirmed that the Victorian Joint Counter Terrorism Team (JCTT) is investigating the event as a possible act of terrorism, allegedly linked to far-left extremists with anarchist and revolutionary beliefs.
The JCTT reported that masked individuals associated with the attack released a video online claiming responsibility, in which they expressed their support for Palestine and provided guidance on constructing an incendiary device similar to what was believed to have been used in the July attack.
In the video, an individual, who identified as a representative of the “Anonymous cell,” stated that Lovitt Technologies was targeted due to its connection to the global F-35 joint strike fighter program, which has been utilized by the Israeli military.
Authorities indicated that the attackers believed the company was part of the supply chain for the Australian Defense Force.
According to Lovitt Technologies' website, the firm is involved in supporting Lockheed Martin's F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program and various Boeing military aircraft production initiatives.
The JCTT warned that those responsible for the attack could face life sentences if found guilty of terrorism-related charges.
