Investigation into Anna Kepner's Death on Cruise Ship Intensifies
New Developments in Anna Kepner's Case
The tragic case of 18-year-old Anna Kepner has gained renewed attention as her parents speak out following recent updates in the investigation surrounding her death on a cruise ship last November. Anna, a high school cheerleader, was discovered deceased on November 7 while vacationing with her family aboard the Carnival Horizon, which was sailing in international waters. The vessel returned to Miami the next day. According to federal prosecutors, Anna's 16-year-old stepbrother, referred to in court documents as TH, has been indicted on charges of murder and aggravated sexual abuse. This case, initially sealed in February, has since been moved to adult court and made public.
Chris Kepner's Plea for Justice
Chris Kepner, Anna's father and the stepfather of the accused, has publicly demanded accountability in this matter. He stated to NBC News, "Justice needs to be served," emphasizing that the teenager should be detained. Reflecting on the profound loss of his daughter, he expressed that the pain is one that will never fully heal. He reiterated the family's commitment to seeking justice, stating, "Our daughter's life matters, and we will continue to speak out to honour her, to seek accountability, and to ensure that her case is not forgotten." He also expressed appreciation for the FBI's involvement in the investigation, noting that the agency has advised the family to maintain silence regarding the case.
Shauntel Hudson Kepner's Silence
Shauntel Hudson Kepner, Anna's stepmother and the mother of the accused, has refrained from making any public statements about the charges. An attorney representing her declined to provide comments when approached by media outlets. Court documents related to a custody dispute between the parents of the accused revealed that he was under investigation shortly after Anna's death. During a court session, Hudson Kepner mentioned that her son was hospitalized soon after the ship docked in Miami on November 8. Chris and Shauntel were married in December 2024. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida stated that the alleged crimes occurred while the ship was in international waters heading to Miami. Prosecutors claim the teenager "allegedly sexually assaulted and intentionally killed" Anna. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office has ruled her cause of death as "mechanical asphyxiation." The accused is currently in the care of a guardian, not his parents, as per court records. Legal representatives for the teenager have not responded to inquiries for comments. Anna Kepner is remembered in her obituary as a vibrant and dependable student with aspirations to continue cheerleading at the University of Georgia, who had a deep love for her siblings.
