Archery: Mixed Teams Advance to Semifinals
India showcased impressive performances in the archery mixed team events during the Asian Games on Sunday. The duo of Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod, along with Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi, both progressed to the semifinals in their respective categories of recurve and compound. Dhiraj and Kumkum secured a dominant 6-0 victory against Vietnam in the quarterfinals, following their Round of 16 win over the UAE. They are set to compete against Japan in the semifinals on October 2.
Similarly, Sahil and Chikitha achieved a convincing win against Kazakhstan, finishing 159-154 in the compound mixed team quarterfinals after previously defeating Mongolia. They will face Thailand in the semifinals on September 30.
Additionally, India's archers have advanced to the semifinals in both the men's and women's compound team events, further highlighting the nation's strong performance in archery at the Games.
Athletics: Santhosh Kumar Reaches 400m Hurdles Final
In athletics, Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan qualified for the men's 400m hurdles final by finishing second in his heat with a time of 49.61 seconds, earning an automatic spot. Unfortunately, Yashas Palaksha did not complete his heat.
In the men's decathlon, Tejaswin Shankar placed seventh in the discus throw with 599 points, dropping to third overall with a total of 5,869 points after previously finishing third in the 110m hurdles.
Fencing and Surfing: Indian Teams Progress
In fencing, the Indian women's team triumphed over Indonesia with a score of 45-23, advancing to the quarterfinals of the team sabre event.
In surfing, Sivaraj Babu moved on to Round 3 of the men's shortboard after defeating Iran's Davoud Khadir. Meanwhile, Kamali Prakash and Sugar Shanti Gayen also advanced to Round 3 in the women's shortboard.
Badminton Campaign Concludes in Quarterfinals
India's badminton journey came to an end in the quarterfinals for both doubles events. Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto were defeated by China's Huang Dongping and Feng Yan Zhe, while Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly lost to Malaysia's Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan.
Mixed Results in Other Events
In other competitions, Manju Rani finished sixth in the women's marathon race walk, while Priyanka Goswami faced disqualification. In sepaktakraw, India lost 0-2 to South Korea in the women's doubles Group B match.
In kurash, Bharti was defeated 0-3 by Iran's Tahereh Azarpeivand in the women's 57kg Round of 16, and Sangita lost 0-10 to Charmea Quelino in the Round of 32.
