Successful Operation by Indian Navy

New Delhi: The Indian Navy has successfully executed a rescue operation lasting over 48 hours, saving a hijacked fishing vessel with 20 crew members off the coast of Somalia.

The fishing vessel, named Azini, was taken over by armed pirates, as reported by the Navy on Tuesday.

All crew members were rescued unharmed, with no injuries reported during the operation.

The hijacking incident occurred earlier last month, posing a significant maritime security risk, as the vessel could have been used as a 'mother ship' for further pirate attacks on merchant vessels in the area.

In response, the Indian Navy deployed a warship along with a maritime reconnaissance aircraft to address the situation.

Through persistent surveillance, these assets successfully located the vessel, monitored its movements, and implemented strategic non-kinetic measures to restrict its mobility and prevent escape.

Marine commandos were then deployed via a precision airdrop from an Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft.

The Navy executed a rapid and coordinated tactical intervention, neutralizing the pirate threat and ensuring the safe release of all crew members.

This operation has been hailed as a 'successful mission' and a demonstration of the Indian Navy's operational readiness and capability to conduct complex maritime security operations through effective inter-service collaboration.

It also highlights India's steadfast commitment to being the First Responder and Preferred Security Partner in the Indian Ocean Region.

The Indian Navy remains dedicated to protecting seafarers, securing crucial maritime trade routes, and fostering a safe and stable maritime environment in the Indian Ocean.
