Chikitha Taniparthi Celebrates Asian Games Success
Chikitha Taniparthi, an Indian archer, expressed her joy following her debut at the Asian Games, where she earned two medals and secured an Olympic quota, marking a significant milestone in her career. She dedicated her achievements to her parents, sharing that the experience of hearing the national anthem was unforgettable. Chikitha was part of the Indian women's compound archery team, which included Jyothi Vennam and Prithika Pradeep. Together, they triumphed over China with a score of 238-234 in the finals, equaling the world record to claim the gold medal. Additionally, Chikitha and Sahil Jadhav made history by securing a spot for the mixed team event at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics after defeating South Korea in the gold medal match. "I feel great. This is my first Asian Games, and winning two medals along with an Olympic quota is a huge accomplishment for me. It feels incredibly special. Hearing the national anthem is a moment you wish to relive repeatedly. I dedicate these medals to my parents," Taniparthi shared in New Delhi on Sunday.
Kirti Sharma Achieves Her Dream
Kirti Sharma, another talented Indian archer, expressed her overwhelming happiness at achieving her dream of winning gold for India. She credited her family's steadfast support, despite their humble financial situation, for her success. Kirti praised her parents, who have previously represented India in the Olympic mixed team event, for their inspiration and encouragement throughout her journey. Alongside teammates Ankita Bhagat and Kumkum Mohod, Kirti made history at the 2026 Asian Games by leading India's women's recurve team to victory against South Korea in the finals, breaking the Korean team's 44-year dominance in this event. "It feels amazing. Winning a gold medal for India was my dream, and I have accomplished it. I am incredibly happy. My family has been a tremendous support. Even though we come from a modest background, they have always been there for me and never denied me anything I needed. I feel fortunate to have such supportive parents, who are champions themselves and have represented India in the Olympics," Kirti Sharma remarked.
India's Archery Triumph
The Indian archery team achieved remarkable success, securing a total of nine medals across ten events, which included five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals. This accomplishment matches their record from the 2023 Hangzhou Games, establishing archery as India's most successful sport in terms of gold medals at the Asian Games.
