India Strengthens Ties with Netherlands Amid EU Trade Talks
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
On December 19, in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the significance of India's relationship with the Netherlands, highlighting its importance both bilaterally and within the European Union (EU). He expressed India's anticipation for the Netherlands' support as negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU enter a critical phase.
During a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel, Jaishankar remarked, "I am pleased that your visit allows you to engage with my colleagues and explore various regions of India, as well as areas of mutual interest. I want to begin by referencing the meeting between our Prime Ministers in Johannesburg, where they reaffirmed their commitment to advancing our relationship. We greatly value our ties with the Netherlands, both on a bilateral level and as a significant EU member."
He further noted, "As we convene today, we acknowledge that several key agreements have been established in recent months, enhancing our collaborative efforts. We look forward to your support as we approach what I hope will be a pivotal moment in our FTA negotiations with the EU. Our strategic partnership encompasses water management, along with robust cooperation in agriculture, health, science, technology, and shipping."
Jaishankar also highlighted emerging areas of collaboration, particularly in semiconductors, which present an opportunity to elevate the bilateral relationship's ambitions.
"Whether it involves semiconductors, digital technology, cyberspace, or life sciences, we are eager to deepen our collaboration with you," he asserted.
