India Set to Host the 2030 Commonwealth Games: A Milestone for Sports
Excitement Surrounds the 2030 Commonwealth Games
Mayank Srivastava, the Deputy Director General of the Sports Authority of India, shared his excitement regarding India's role as the host for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. He believes this event could significantly transform Indian sports by providing athletes with international exposure and growth opportunities.
Ahmedabad Chosen as Venue
Last month, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced that Ahmedabad, located in Gujarat, will serve as the official venue for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Srivastava expressed pride in India's capability to organize and host international events, stating, "With athletes arriving in India, we will have a chance to share experiences, which will enhance learning and development."
Marking the Centenary Games
India has put forth an impressive proposal for the 2030 Games, which will take place in Ahmedabad. This event aims to build upon the groundwork established by Glasgow 2026, allowing India to celebrate the centenary of the Commonwealth Games in a grand manner. The inaugural Commonwealth Games were held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada. In the most recent Games, which took place in Birmingham, England, Australia led the medal tally, followed by England, Canada, India, and New Zealand.
PM Modi Celebrates the Achievement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy over India being awarded the hosting rights for the 100th Commonwealth Games. He emphasized that the nation's "collective commitment and spirit of sportsmanship" has firmly established India on the global sports stage. In a message shared on X, he stated, "I am delighted that India has won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030! Congratulations to the people of India and the sporting community. Our shared commitment and sportsmanship have placed India on the global sporting map. Embracing the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we are excited to celebrate these historic games with immense enthusiasm and look forward to welcoming the world!"
