New Additions to India's Net Bowlers

Aquib Nabi and Prince Yadav, both pacers from Jammu and Kashmir, have been selected as part of the net bowlers' pool to assist the Indian cricket team in their upcoming Test match against Afghanistan, scheduled for June 6 in New Chandigarh, as reported by a sports news outlet. Joining them are Gurjapneet Singh and spinners Shivang Kumar, Saransh Jain, and Zeeshan Ansari.

Performance Highlights

Prince Yadav is included in the squad for the subsequent three-match ODI series following the Test. Meanwhile, Aquib Nabi has made a strong impression with his remarkable performance earlier this year, where he took 60 wickets in a title-winning campaign for Jammu and Kashmir, earning the title of 'Player of the Tournament' with an impressive average of 12.56. Despite this, he was not selected for the Test team, which opted for seamers Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Gurnoor Brar.

IPL Experiences of the Net Bowlers

Aquib Nabi played for the Delhi Capitals in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) but did not take any wickets in his five matches. In contrast, Prince Yadav shone for the Lucknow Super Giants, claiming 16 wickets with an average of 28.68 and an economy rate of 8.82. Gurjapneet Singh, representing Chennai Super Kings, took four wickets in four matches at an average of 58.25, while Shivang Kumar played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, securing nine wickets in 13 matches with an average of 41.66.

Insights from the Chief Selector

After the selection of the Afghanistan squad, chief selector Ajit Agarkar commented, "When forming a Test team in India, it’s not always necessary to include many seamers. While he was a strong candidate, we have chosen the three seamers we believe are best suited for this match."

Historical Context of the Test Match

This upcoming match marks only the second Test between India and Afghanistan. The first encounter took place in 2018 in Bengaluru, where India triumphed by an innings and 262 runs.
