India Launches Its First Official F1 Sim Racing Championship
Introduction to the Championship
Formula 1, in collaboration with Mumbai Falcons Racing Limited, has unveiled India's inaugural Official F1 Sim Racing Championship. This initiative, sanctioned by Formula 1, allows Mumbai Falcons to organize a national sim racing competition, named the F1 Sim Racing India Open 2026. The championship aims to create a competitive platform for budding talents across India, providing a structured route from virtual racing to professional motorsport. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first program of its kind introduced by Formula 1 specifically for India.
Timing and Context
The announcement is timely, coinciding with increasing discussions about the potential return of Formula 1 to India, alongside a growing fanbase for the sport. With the recent recognition of e-sports under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, the F1 Sim Racing India Open 2026 serves as a vital link between India and the global F1 driver pathway, tapping into the expanding motorsport landscape.
Championship Structure and Registration
The championship will be conducted using F1 25, the official game of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship™, featuring the same circuits, competitive formats, and team liveries as seen in the global series. Registrations will open on April 30, 2026, via the MFRL App, available on both Play Store and Apple Store. Participants can compete using PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. The competition will include online qualifiers leading to city-based simulator rounds, culminating in a national final in Mumbai scheduled for November.
A New Era for Talent Development
Narain Karthikeyan, India's first Formula 1 driver, commented on the initiative, stating, "India has always been a key player in the global Formula 1 narrative. With 78.8 million fans and a generation familiar with F1 gaming, launching an official competitive Sim Racing Championship is timely. Mumbai Falcons are the perfect partner, having dedicated years to nurturing India's motorsport talent. This unique initiative will set a new standard for talent development."
Mumbai Falcons: Leading the Charge for Indian Motorsport
Ameet Gadhoke, Managing Director of Mumbai Falcons Racing Limited, expressed, "Since our inception in 2019, our goal has been to establish India on the global motorsport stage and create a pathway for elite talent. Mumbai Falcons was the first Indian team to secure an FIA-accredited international racing championship and has supported the early careers of future Formula 1 stars. Collaborating with Formula 1 to launch the F1 Sim Racing India Open 2026 is another significant step in that direction."
