India's Support in Combating Tuberculosis

Colombo, Oct 7: On Wednesday, Santosh Jha, India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, presented a shipment of vital anti-tuberculosis medications to Nalinda Jayatissa, the Minister of Health and Mass Media in Sri Lanka.

Jha expressed his satisfaction on social media, stating, "Together in the battle against TB! Today, I was pleased to deliver a 3-tonne shipment of crucial anti-TB medicines to Hon. Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. These supplies will bolster Sri Lanka’s efforts in treating and controlling tuberculosis, enhancing the nation’s overall response to the disease."

Earlier, on September 28, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that India had dispatched anti-tuberculosis medicines to Colombo via an Indian Air Force aircraft, reaffirming India's dedication to aiding Sri Lanka's healthcare system.

"India is steadfast in its commitment to support Sri Lanka's public health initiatives. Today, approximately 3 tonnes of anti-tuberculosis medicines were sent to Colombo on an IAF C130J," Jaishankar shared on social media.

Additionally, on September 16, the Indian government funded the construction of a new two-storey accident and emergency unit at the District General Hospital in Mannar, Sri Lanka.

During the foundation stone laying ceremony, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Minister Jayatissa, and High Commissioner Jha were in attendance. The project is backed by an Indian grant of 600 million Sri Lankan Rupees.

Jha expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Strengthening Healthcare, Saving Lives! It was a pleasure to join H.E. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Hon’ble Minister Nalinda Jayatissa at the foundation stone laying for the new Accident and Emergency Unit at Mannar's District General Hospital."

He further noted that the project would also provide essential medical equipment to the unit, ensuring prompt emergency care during critical moments.

Jha emphasized that this initiative is a "true testament" to the lasting partnership between India and Sri Lanka, highlighting their mutual commitment to development focused on the welfare of their people.
