Imran Khan Raises Alarm Over Wife's Treatment in Prison Amid Ongoing Health Concerns
Imran Khan's Concerns for Bushra Bibi
Islamabad: The founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has expressed serious concerns regarding the 'inhumane treatment' faced by his wife, Bushra Bibi, while incarcerated.
Kasim Khan, the son of the imprisoned leader, shared on social media that he had a conversation with his father on March 21, during which Imran requested him to relay a message.
In his statement, Imran accused the judiciary in Pakistan of losing its integrity and specifically targeting his wife.
"Judges in this nation should feel ashamed. We have repeatedly sought justice, yet they have compromised their principles for personal gain. They know they cannot break me, so they resort to my wife. How can they permit such inhumane treatment of Bushra Bibi, merely to exert pressure on me? She is isolated for 24 hours a day, with only 30 minutes of visitation with me weekly—often disregarded," Imran stated, as shared by Kasim.
"It is against Islamic principles to harm women, children, and the elderly. Their intentions are clear. Judges are responsible for upholding justice in society and should be ashamed of their actions," the former Prime Minister added.
Both Imran and Bushra Bibi have been detained since August 2023, currently held at the high-security Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
In a related development, Imran underwent a third eye procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on Monday, with his party expressing concerns over his treatment without the presence of family or personal doctors.
A hospital statement indicated that Imran received a third dose of an anti-VEGF intravitreal injection.
"The injection was administered, and he was monitored for stability before being returned to Adiala Jail," a senior doctor informed a local daily.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram emphasized the party's insistence that medical procedures should occur in the presence of personal physicians and family members.
"We demand that Khan Sahib be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for comprehensive medical evaluations," he added.
Reports regarding Imran Khan's eye condition, specifically right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), emerged in January. His initial medical procedure was conducted on January 24, with the government disclosing this information five days later.
Since then, the opposition has accused the government of lacking transparency and failing to provide adequate medical care for Imran Khan, as well as preventing him from consulting his personal doctors. The government has denied these claims.
