In a significant advancement for the sports scene in Himachal Pradesh, ten athletes from the region have been chosen to represent India at the 7th Asian Savate Championship, which will take place in Nepal. This accomplishment is a notable achievement for martial arts in the state, showcasing its increasing prominence on an international level.
The championship is set to occur from April 29 to May 3 at Kathmandu University, where elite competitors from various Asian countries will compete in Savate, commonly referred to as French kickboxing.
Himachal's Strong Representation
The selection of these athletes was facilitated by the Savate Association of Himachal Pradesh, indicating the enhanced training standards and participation rates in the sport within the state. The simultaneous selection of ten athletes for the national team is regarded as a groundbreaking milestone for the martial arts community in Himachal.
Leadership Roles Enhance State's Pride
Further enhancing the state's representation, Ms. Rekha has been appointed as the Captain of the Indian Women’s Savate Team, highlighting her leadership skills and performance history.
Additionally, Santoshi Sharma, the General Secretary of the state association, has been designated as the Coach of the Indian Women’s Team, emphasizing Himachal's growing impact not only in athlete representation but also in coaching roles at the national level.
High Hopes Ahead of the Championship
Madan Lal, the President of the state association, extended his congratulations to the selected athletes, coach, and officials, expressing optimism that the team will perform admirably. He noted that this selection is a testament to the commitment and effort of both players and trainers, and he hopes the team will return with medals, bringing honor to both the nation and Himachal Pradesh.
The forthcoming championship is anticipated to serve as a vital international stage for the athletes to showcase their skills against some of the finest competitors in Asia, further enhancing India's reputation in the sport.
