Gurindervir Singh Sets New 100m Record at Federation Cup
Gurindervir Singh Achieves Historic 100m Victory
Gurindervir Singh has made history by becoming the first Indian male athlete to complete the 100m dash in under 10.10 seconds. He achieved this remarkable feat at the Federation Cup held in Ranchi, clocking an impressive national record of 10.09 seconds. The 24-year-old athlete surpassed the previous national record by 0.06 seconds, which was set just a day earlier by Animesh Kujur during the semifinals, according to reports. Interestingly, Gurindervir had briefly held the record himself after finishing the semifinals in 10.17 seconds, only to see Animesh reclaim it moments later with a time of 10.15 seconds. This time, Gurindervir not only reclaimed the record but also secured his spot alongside Animesh for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where they will represent India in the men's 100m event.
Vishal Kayalvizhi Breaks 400m Record
In another remarkable achievement, Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi became the first Indian man to break the 45-second barrier in the 400m event. He won the race at the Federation Cup with a stunning national record time of 44.98 seconds. This historic performance came shortly after Gurindervir's record-setting run in the 100m, marking a significant evening for Indian athletics in Ranchi.
Exciting 100m Semifinals
Earlier in the day, Animesh Kujur set a new national record in the men's 100m during the semifinals at the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition 2026 in Ranchi. Gurindervir Singh was the first to break Animesh's previous record of 10.18 seconds, which had been established last year, by finishing the first semifinal heat in 10.17 seconds. However, Animesh quickly reclaimed the record in the subsequent semifinal heat with a time of 10.15 seconds.
